St Breward to Camelford – National Cycle Network Opportunity
St Breward to Camelford – National Cycle Network Opportunity
26 June 2025

My name is Jess and I am a Project Manager at Sustrans, the charity dedicated to making it easier for people to walk, wheel, and cycle. I am getting in touch to let you know about a new opportunity for you to help shape improvements to your local travel routes.
Sustrans is working with Cornwall Council to connect National Cycle Network Route 3 to Camelford and improve the journey between Wenfordbridge (the end of the Camel Trail), St Breward, and Camelford. The goal is to make it safer and more accessible for everyone to use.
To do this, we want to understand local people’s experience and views of day-to-day journeys within and in between St Breward, Row, Churchtown and Camelford using roads which partly follow National Cycle Network Route 3. This can be either from your experience of walking, wheeling, cycling, horse riding and/or driving. Therefore, we would like the community to share their experiences and help shape the initial designs for improvements, with a view to applying for funding for improvements. These designs could include things like the creation of footways and crossing places, places to sit down, signage, traffic calming, public art, and making roads more accessible for people with different lived experiences of disability. We are also keen to hear what local people think the name of the trail should be!
After the in-person events and the online mapping tool have closed, we will review all of your feedback. We’ll then use this to help shape the draft design for St Breward to Camelford. To check that we’ve understood your ideas correctly, we’ll then share the draft plan with you and ask for your feedback again in Autumn 2025. We will then make any necessary changes to be sure that the plan works well for everyone in the community. This will also include an accessibility forum, which we will do based on interest.
Accessible design panel members are needed, so please contact us if you have/are:
- a disability, or care for someone with a disability
- reduced mobility
- a parent/carer using a pram/pushchair interest in accessibility
Contact us today and learn more about this exciting opportunity: EngagementsDES@sustrans.org.uk
Please note, all accessibility participants can be paid for their time
Your input will help shape changes to this route and create a more welcoming road environment for all community members. This project is funded by the Department for Transport through Active Travel England and aims to be completed by spring 2026.
Here’s how you can get involved and share your experiences with us (see attached posters too):
Join us at the initial in-person events:
- Camelford • Tuesday 15th July, 5:30-7:30 pm
Venue: Camelford Hall, PL32 9QX
- St Breward • Thursday 17th July, 5:30-7:30 pm
Venue: St Breward Village Hall, PL30 4PP
To attend: Just show up on the day
Join us at one of our events to get involved. These are drop-in events, so you can arrive and leave as you please. Sustrans staff will be facilitating conversations with event attendees, asking you about your experiences and views on the route – we’re keen to hear about any concerns you may have about the route and what could be improved. We will have maps available to aid conversations, as well as refreshments such as tea/coffee.
Please find our events poster attached to this email, which provides a summary of our event details.
Engage with us online:
- If you are unable to attend an in-person drop-in event, share your experiences and views online: communitymap.uk/project/254 . This is open until Friday, 25th July.
Share with your network:
It would be greatly appreciated if you could help spread the word about these events by sharing this email and/or the attached events poster with your network in the St Breward and Camelford areas. Examples of promotional support could be forwarding this email to other local area contacts, putting our poster on a community/digital noticeboard and including our poster/event details in a community newsletter.
Many thanks,
Jessica Rowe
