11 July 2023

What a Summer is has been here in Camelford! It has been a very busy time with lots of events and changes to the Library. Where to start… The Coronation!

Despite the weather and changing the venue at the last moment, a wonderful time was had by all. Camelford Leisure Centre hosted our event, with a huge screen to stream the Coronation. It was also the launch of Connecting Community Camelford, with The Community Larder present, Higher Culloden Community Garden and Brownies. Pickle Design mugs were handed out, with cake (wonderfully made by Kirsty). Live music was provided by Company B, who got people shuffling in their seats and kids up dancing. Katy and Ness ran a community workshop, making pinned rosettes. The Bash Street Theatre came along with the Royal Guard stilt walkers, and Ross did a great circus skills workshop. What a wonderful day it was.

Community Hub Grant Funding in partnership with Camelford Leisure Centre

CTC was delighted to be successful in a joint bid with Camelford Leisure Centre for Community Hub Funding. CTC has changed its working hours on a Wednesday to run community workshops, activities and host other organisations and training. It now opens 2.30pm to 8pm. So far, it has hosted Defibrillator Training, Knit and Knatter, Speedwatch, MS Support Group, a crochet workshop, author event, book clubs and Community Energy Plus. With other activities such as board games and lego, plus free hot drinks, it has been a great start. CTC is purchasing a lovely hot drinks machine in time for when the weather turns colder, and will be purchasing a sofa and a few bistro tables to provide a warm space.

Follow-up Copper Leaf Workshop

As the first workshop was such a success, CTC secured further FEAST funding to complete the tree. Four workshops took place in the bandstand with some wonderful leaves made. A big thank you to Gary and Thomas from Thrussels for another wonderful workshop. This was the first event to kick off Fun Week 2023…

Fun Week 2023

The sun shone all week for a very successful Fun Week. With activities such as the Fun Run, Slip n Slide, Dog Show, OCM Skate Day, Music in the Park, Treasure Hunt, Bingo, Tug of War, Bird and Bat Walk and Duck Race. The pictures say it all!

OCM Cafe Opens

CTC was delighted to see the Cafe at the OCM skatepark finally open. A vision from 2018, Danio is open 6 days a week serving delicious pancakes, fitters, home made chips, breakfast baps and hot and cold drinks.

Endelienta Project

Ness and Katy from Endelienta spent months with local children, transforming the shelter into a great place to hang out. They also transformed the ramps on the skatepark and parkour area.

Skate Create – Mondays @ the OCM

CTC was delighted to get further support from the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund to support a new Community Outreach Worker and Skate Coach. Welcome to Ness and Andrew (pictured above). They have done some wonderful things at the new Skate Create Club on a Monday, creating a safe space for our young people. They have been taken to Polzeath for a beach trip, Tubestation for a skate session, and recently to Padstow for a Sealife Safari. It also has started working with the Family Hub in Camelford, who are letting us use their space for free! It enabled Ness to do a cookery session, which the kids loved. Want to take part. Email vanessa.harrison@camelford-tc.gov.uk to join. It is just £1 and you get free snacks and drinks, courtesy of Wadebridge and Camelford Food Bank. The Grow Centre supported our cookery lesson by donating £20, and also donated some Vans shoes for one of our budding skaters. Come along on a Monday 3pm to 8pm. Skating from 3pm if weather good. Create sessions start at 7pm either at the OCM or the Family Hub if wet. #communityoutreach#workinginpartnership#camelford
